God's Words of Comfort

A Portion of God's Holy Word Regarding:

Temptation – Flirtation – Lust – Desire – Seduction – Temptress

Now the serpent was more subtle than any other wild creature that the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God say, 'You shall not eat of any tree of the garden?'"
And the woman said to the serpent, "We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden; but God said, 'You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.'"
But the serpent said to the woman, "You will not die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."
So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate; and she also gave some to her husband, and he ate. Genesis 3:1-6 (RSV)

Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them. Deuteronomy 11:16 (KJV)
I made a covenant with my eyes not to look with lust upon a young woman. What has God above chosen for us? What is our inheritance from the Almighty on high? It is calamity for the wicked, misfortune for those who do evil. He sees everything I do and every step I take. Job 31:1-4 (NLT)
Blessed is the person who does not follow the advice of wicked people, take the path of sinners, or join the company of mockers. Rather, he delights in the teachings of the LORD and reflects on His teachings day and night. He is like a tree planted beside streams-- a tree that produces fruit in season and whose leaves do not wither. He succeeds in everything he does. Psalms 1:1-3 (GOD’S WORD®)
As for me, I will walk in my integrity. Redeem me, and be merciful to me. Psalms 26:11 (WEB)

Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips. Do not incline my heart to any evil thing, To practice wicked works With men who work iniquity; And do not let me eat of their delicacies. Psalms 141:3-4 (NKJV)
Dear friend, if bad companions tempt you, don't go along with them. If they say - "Let's go out and raise some hell. Let's beat up some old man, mug some old woman"… Oh, friend, don't give them a second look; don't listen to them for a minute. They're racing to a very bad end, hurrying to ruin everything they lay hands on. Proverbs 1:10-11, 15-16 (The Message)

Proverbs 2:10-12, 16-17 (The Message)
Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. Proverbs 4:14 (KJV)
The lips of a seductive woman are oh so sweet, her soft words are oh so smooth. But it won't be long before she's gravel in your mouth, a pain in your gut, a wound in your heart. She's dancing down the primrose path to Death; she's headed straight for Hell and taking you with her… Keep your distance from such a woman; absolutely stay out of her neighborhood. Proverbs 5:3-5, 8 (The Message)
Son, do what your father tells you and never forget what your mother taught you… It can keep you away from bad women, from the seductive words of other men's wives. Don't be tempted by their beauty; don't be trapped by their flirting eyes. Proverbs 6:20, 24-25 (GNT)
Can a man scoop fire into his lap, And his clothes not be burned? Or can one walk on hot coals, And his feet not be scorched? So is he who goes in to his neighbor's wife. Whoever touches her will not be unpunished. Proverbs 6:27-29 (WEB)
Say to wisdom, You are my sister, and call insight your intimate friend, to keep you from the forbidden woman, from the adulteress with her smooth words. Proverbs 7:4-5 (ESV)
With her enticing speech she caused him to yield, With her flattering lips she seduced him. Immediately he went after her, as an ox goes to the slaughter, Or as a fool to the correction of the stocks… Do not let your heart turn aside to her ways, Do not stray into her paths; For she has cast down many wounded, And all who were slain by her were strong men. Proverbs 7:21-22, 25-26 (NKJV)
Don't dissipate your virility on fortune-hunting women, promiscuous women who shipwreck leaders. Proverbs 31:3 (The Message)
Do not spend your time with women—the royal pathway to destruction. Proverbs 31:3 (TLB)
Enjoy what you have rather than desiring what you don't have. Ecclesiastes 6:9 (NLT)

Fall Colors Red and Gold LeavesI discovered that a seductive woman is more bitter than death. Her passion is a trap, and her soft hands will bind you. Those who please God will escape from her, but sinners will be caught in her snare. Ecclesiastes 7:26 (NLT)
Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. When He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He was hungry afterward. The tempter came and said to Him, "If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread."
But He answered, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.'"
Then the devil took Him into the holy city. He set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, 'He will give His angels charge concerning You.' and, 'On their hands they will bear You up, So that you don't dash Your foot against a stone.'"
Jesus said to him, "Again, it is written, 'You shall not test the Lord, your God.'"

Again, the devil took Him to an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world, and their glory. He said to Him, "I will give You all of these things, if You will fall down and worship me."
Then Jesus said to him, "Get behind me, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only shall you serve.'" Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him. Matthew 4:1-11 (WEB)
"Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, 'Thou shalt not commit adultery:' But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart." Matthew 5:27-28 (KJV)
"After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen." Matthew 6:9-13 (KJV)
"Enter in by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and many are those who enter in by it." Matthew 7:13 (WEB)
"How terrible for the world that there are things that make people lose their faith! Such things will always happen, but how terrible for the one who causes them!" Matthew 18:7 (GNT)
"Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." Matthew 26:41 (KJV)
"Then if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or, 'Look, He is there!' do not believe it. For false Christs and false prophets will rise and show signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. But take heed; see, I have told you all things beforehand." Mark 13:21-23 (NKJV)

"There will always be temptations to sin," Jesus said one day to His disciples, "but woe to the man who does the tempting." Luke 17:1 (TLB)
Beautiful Yosemite ValleyWe know that our old self was crucified with Him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. For one who has died has been set free from sin. Romans 6:6-7 (ESV)
Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. Romans 6:12-13 (KJV)
Is the Law itself a sinful thing? No, indeed; on the contrary, unless I had been taught by the Law, I should have known nothing of sin as sin. For instance, I should not have known what covetousness is, if the Law had not repeatedly said, "Thou shall not covet." Romans 7:7 (WNT)
I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate… So then it is no longer I that do it, but sin which dwells within me. For I know that nothing good dwells within me, that is, in my flesh. I can will what is right, but I cannot do it… Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I that do it, but sin which dwells within me… Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I of myself serve the Law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin. Romans 7:15, 17-18, 20, 24-25 (RSV)

Big Sur California CoastIf people's thinking is controlled by the sinful self, there is death. But if their thinking is controlled by the Spirit, there is life and peace. Romans 8:6 (NCV™)
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. Romans 8:26 (NRSV)
The night is far advanced, and day is about to dawn. We must therefore lay aside the deeds of darkness, and clothe ourselves with the armor of Light. Living as we do in broad daylight, let us conduct ourselves becomingly, not indulging in revelry and drunkenness, nor in lust and debauchery, nor in quarrelling and jealousy. On the contrary, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for gratifying your earthly cravings. Romans 13:12-14 (WNT)
Don't you know that the unrighteous will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don't be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor extortioners, will inherit the Kingdom of God. Such were some of you, but you were washed. But you were sanctified. But you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and in the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 (WEB)
Because there is so much fornication every man should have a wife of his own, and every woman should have a husband. 1 Corinthians 7:2 (WNT)
We should not lust after evil things. 1 Corinthians 10:6 (KJV)
If you think you are strong, you should be careful not to fall. The only temptation that has come to you is that which everyone has. But you can trust God, who will not permit you to be tempted more than you can stand. But when you are tempted, He will also give you a way to escape so that you will be able to stand it.1 Corinthians 10:12-13 (NCV™)
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the Lord's work, because you know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 15:58 (WEB)
After all, we don't want to unwittingly give Satan an opening for yet more mischief - we're not oblivious to his sly ways! 2 Corinthians 2:11 (The Message)
God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work. 2 Corinthians 9:8 (KJV)
You were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for self-indulgence, but through love become slaves to one another… Live by the Spirit, I say, and do not gratify the desires of the flesh. For what the flesh desires is opposed to the Spirit, and what the Spirit desires is opposed to the flesh; for these are opposed to each other, to prevent you from doing what you want. Galatians 5:13, 16-17 (NRSV)
For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. Galatians 6:8 (KJV)
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His power. Put on the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For our struggle is not against enemies of blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
Therefore take up the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand on that evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Ephesians 6:10-13 (NRSV)
In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. The peace of God, which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about these things. Philippians 4:6-8 (WEB)

I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13 (WEB)
But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 (KJV)

Yellowstone Boiling Hot SpringTake care lest there be some one who leads you away as prisoners by means of his philosophy and idle fancies, following human traditions and the world's crude notions instead of following Christ. For it is in Christ that the fullness of God's nature dwells embodied, and in Him you are made complete, and He is the Lord of all princes and rulers. Colossians 2:8-10 (WNT)
So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. Colossians 3:1-2 (NRSV)
You must put to death, then, the earthly desires at work in you, such as sexual immorality, indecency, lust, evil passions, and greed (for greed is a form of idolatry). Colossians 3:5 (GNT)
Keep yourself from those desires of the flesh which are strong when the body is young, and go after righteousness, faith, love, peace, with those whose prayers go up to the Lord from a clean heart. 2 Timothy 2:22 (BBE)
God has revealed His grace for the salvation of all people. That grace instructs us to give up ungodly living and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in this world, as we wait for the blessed Day we hope for, when the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ will appear. Titus 2:11-13 (GNT)
It is clear that it is not the angels that [Jesus] helps. Instead, He helps the descendants of Abraham. This means that He had to become like His people in every way, in order to be their faithful and merciful High Priest in His service to God, so that the people's sins would be forgiven. And now He can help those who are tempted, because He Himself was tempted and suffered. Hebrews 2:16-18 (GNT)
Indeed, the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit, joints from marrow; it is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 (NRSV)
Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:14-16 (NKJV)
Honor marriage, and guard the sacredness of sexual intimacy between wife and husband. God draws a firm line against casual and illicit sex. Hebrews 13:4 (The Message)
Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. Let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. James 1:2-4 (WEB)
Blessed are those who endure when they are tested. When they pass the test, they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him. When someone is tempted, he shouldn't say that God is tempting him. God can't be tempted by evil, and God doesn't tempt anyone. Everyone is tempted by his own desires as they lure him away and trap him. Then desire becomes pregnant and gives birth to sin. When sin grows up, it gives birth to death. James 1:12-15 (GOD’S WORD®)

B and W Montana MountainWhat causes fights and quarrels among you? Aren't they caused by the selfish desires that fight to control you? You want what you don't have, so you commit murder. You're determined to have things, but you can't get what you want. You quarrel and fight. You don't have the things you want, because you don't pray for them. When you pray for things, you don't get them because you want them for the wrong reason--for your own pleasure. You unfaithful people! Don't you know that love for this evil world is hatred toward God? Whoever wants to be a friend of this world is an enemy of God. James 4:1-4 (GOD’S WORD®)
Submit therefore to God: resist the Devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and make your hearts pure, you who are half-hearted towards God. James 4:7-8 (WNT)
If, however, a man knows what it is right to do and yet does not do it, he commits a sin. James 4:17 (WNT)
My loved ones, I make this request with all my heart, that, as those for whom this world is a strange country, you will keep yourselves from the desires of the flesh which make war against the soul. 1 Peter 2:11 (BBE)
Throw the whole of your anxiety upon Him, because He Himself cares for you. Curb every passion, and be on the alert. Your great accuser, the Devil, is going about like a roaring lion to see whom he can devour. Withstand him, firm in your faith; knowing that your brethren in other parts of the world are passing through just the same experiences. And God, the giver of all grace, who has called you to share His eternal glory, through Christ, after you have suffered for a short time, will Himself make you perfect, firm, and strong. 1 Peter 5:7-10 (WNT)
The Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the Day of Judgment, and especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority. 2 Peter 2:9-10 (NKJV)
Dear friends, since you already know about this, be careful. Do not let those evil people lead you away by the wrong they do. Be careful so you will not fall from your strong faith. 2 Peter 3:17 (NCV™)
Have no love for the world or for the things which are in the world. If any man has love for the world, the love of the Father is not in him. Because everything in the world, the desires of the flesh, the desires of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father but of the world. And the world and its desires is coming to an end: but he who does God's pleasure is living for ever. 1 John 2:15-17 (WNT)
You know that He appeared, in order that He might take away our sins. For in Him, there is no sin. Everyone who abides in Him does not sin. For whoever sins has not seen Him, and has not known Him. 1 John 3:5-6 (CPDV)
