God's Words of Comfort

A Portion of God's Holy Word Regarding:

Patience – Endurance – Tolerance – Composure – Self-Control

But He knows every detail of what is happening to me; and when He has examined me, He will pronounce me completely innocent—as pure as solid gold! I have stayed in God's paths, following His steps. I have not turned aside. Job 23:10-11 (TLB)
Yea, let none that wait on Thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause. Shew me Thy ways, O LORD; teach me Thy paths. Lead me in Thy truth, and teach me: for Thou art the God of my salvation; on Thee do I wait all the day… Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on Thee.  Psalms 25:3-5, 21 (KJV)
Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD. Psalms 27:14 (KJV)
Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding, which must be curbed with bit and bridle. Psalms 32:9 (ESV)
Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil. For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth. Psalms 37:7-9 (KJV)
Don't be impatient for the Lord to act! Keep traveling steadily along His pathway and in due season He will honor you with every blessing. Psalms 37:34 (TLB)
Yellowstone River and MeadowI waited patiently for the LORD; He inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the desolate pit, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the LORD. Psalms 40:1-3 (RSV)
My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation: He is my defense; I shall not be moved. Psalms 62:5-6 (KJV)

It is better to finish something than to start it. It is better to be patient than to be proud. Ecclesiastes 7:8 (NCV™)

Glacier Lake and WildflowersAnd it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for Him, and He will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for Him, we will be glad and rejoice in His salvation. Isaiah 25:9 (KJV)
This, now, is what the Sovereign Lord says: "I am placing in Zion a foundation that is firm and strong. In it I am putting a solid cornerstone on which are written the words, 'Faith that is firm is also patient.'" Isaiah 28:16 (GNT)
Therefore the Lord waits to be gracious to you, and therefore He exalts Himself to show mercy to you. For the Lord is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for Him. Isaiah 30:18 (ESV)
Make strong the feeble hands, give support to the shaking knees. Say to those who are full of fear, Be strong and take heart: see, your God will give punishment; the reward of God will come; He Himself will come to be your savior. Isaiah 35:3-4 (BBE)
Those who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31 (HNV)
The Lord is good to everyone who trusts in Him, So it is best for us to wait in patience—to wait for Him to save us—It is best to learn this patience in our youth. Lamentations 3:25-28, 31-32 (GNT)
Blessed is he who waits. Daniel 12:12 (WEB)
"Put it in writing, because it is not yet time for it to come true. But the time is coming quickly, and what I show you will come true. It may seem slow in coming, but wait for it; it will certainly take place, and it will not be delayed. And this is the message: 'Those who are evil will not survive, but those who are righteous will live because they are faithful to God.'" Habakkuk 2:3-4 (GNT)
Therefore I will look unto the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me. Micah 7:7 (KJV)

Yosemite Tip Tops"Everyone will hate you because you are committed to Me. But the person who patiently endures to the end will be saved." Matthew 10:22 (GOD’S WORD®)
[In the Parable of the Widow and the Unjust Judge, Jesus teaches us to pray persistently, to pray without ceasing no matter what the obstacle. The widow was becoming obnoxious to the judge because of her hounding, and he granted her justice just to get her off his back. If an unjust judge can give justice because of persistence, how much more will a just and gracious God give justice to those He loves? The prayers of righteous people are powerful and effective.]
Then Jesus told His disciples a parable to teach them they should always pray and never become discouraged.
He also taught them by a parable that they must always pray and never lose heart.
"In a certain town," He said, "there was a judge who had no fear of God and no respect for man. And in the same town was a widow who repeatedly came and entreated him, saying, 'Give me justice and stop my oppressor.' For a time he would not, but afterwards he said to himself, 'Though I have neither reverence for God nor respect for man, yet because she annoys me I will give her justice, to prevent her from constantly coming to pester me.'
     And the Lord said,
"Hear those words of the unjust judge. And will not God avenge the wrongs of His own People who cry aloud to Him day and night, although He seems slow in taking action on their behalf? Yes, He will soon avenge their wrongs. Yet, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on earth?" Luke 18:1-8 (WNT)
Since we have been made right with God by our faith, we have peace with God. This happened through our Lord Jesus Christ, who has brought us into that blessing of God's grace that we now enjoy. And we are happy because of the hope we have of sharing God's glory. We also have joy with our troubles, because we know that these troubles produce patience. And patience produces character, and character produces hope. And this hope will never disappoint us, because God has poured out His love to fill our hearts. He gave us His love through the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to us. Romans 5:1-5 (NCV™)
Golden Aspens SierrasWe have the Spirit as the first part of God's promise. So we are waiting for God to finish making us his own children, which means our bodies will be made free. We were saved, and we have this hope. If we see what we are waiting for, that is not really hope. People do not hope for something they already have. But we are hoping for something we do not have yet, and we are waiting for it patiently. Romans 8:23-25 (NCV™)
Work hard and do not be lazy. Serve the Lord with a heart full of devotion. Let your hope keep you joyful, be patient in your troubles, and pray at all times. Romans 12:11-12 (GNT)
Christ didn't please Himself. As the Psalmist said, "He came for the very purpose of suffering under the insults of those who were against the Lord."These things that were written in the Scriptures so long ago are to teach us patience and to encourage us, so that we will look forward expectantly to the time when God will conquer sin and death. May God who gives patience, steadiness, and encouragement help you to live in complete harmony with each other—each with the attitude of Christ toward the other. Romans 15:3-5 (TLB)
Do you not see that in a running competition all take part, but only one gets the reward? So let your minds be fixed on the reward. And every man who takes part in the sports has self-control in all things. Now they do it to get a crown which is of this world, but we for an eternal crown. 1 Corinthians 9:24-25 (BBE)
The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no Law. Those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and lusts. If we live by the Spirit, let's also walk by the Spirit. Galatians 5:22-25 (WEB)
Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don't give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us work that which is good toward all men, and especially toward those who are of the household of the faith. Galatians 6:9-10 (WEB)
Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Ephesians 6:10-11 (WEB)
If you've gotten anything at all out of following Christ, if His love has made any difference in your life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you, if you have a heart, if you care - then do me a favor: Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends. Don't push your way to the front; don't sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don't be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand. Philippians 2:1-4 (The Message)
I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13 (WEB)
So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth, for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory. Colossians 3:1-4 (NRSV)
Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassion, kindness, lowliness, meekness, and patience, forbearing one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. Colossians 3:12-14 (RSV)
We exhort you, brethren, admonish the unruly, comfort the timid, sustain the weak, and be patient towards all. 1 Thessalonians 5:14 (WNT)
But the Lord is faithful and will give you strength and will protect you from the Evil One… May the Lord lead your hearts into God's love and Christ's patience. 2 Thessalonians 3:3-5 (NCV™)
I am more than willing to suffer if that will bring salvation and eternal glory in Christ Jesus to those God has chosen. I am comforted by this truth, that when we suffer and die for Christ it only means that we will begin living with Him in Heaven. And if we think that our present service for Him is hard, just remember that some day we are going to sit with Him and rule with Him. But if we give up when we suffer, and turn against Christ, then He must turn against us. 2 Timothy 2:10-12 (TLB)
A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, a good teacher, and patient. The Lord's servant must gently teach those who disagree. Then maybe God will let them change their minds so they can accept the truth. And they may wake up and escape from the trap of the devil, who catches them to do what he wants. 2 Timothy 2:24-26 (NCV™)
You need to be patient, in order to do the will of God and receive what He promises. Hebrews 10:36 (GNT)
Therefore let us also, seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us. Hebrews 12:1 (WEB)
My brothers and sisters, when you have many kinds of troubles, you should be full of joy, because you know that these troubles test your faith, and this will give you patience. Let your patience show itself perfectly in what you do. Then you will be perfect and complete and will have everything you need. James 1:2-4 (NCV™)
Sentinel YosemiteBlessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of Life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love Him. James 1:12 (KJV)
Every one be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to be angry. James 1:19 (WNT)
Be patient therefore, brethren, until the Coming of the Lord. Notice how eagerly a farmer waits for a valuable crop! He is patient over it till it has received the early and the later rain. So you also must be patient: keeping up your courage; for the Coming of the Lord is now close at hand. James 5:7-8 (WNT)
Brothers and sisters, follow the example of the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. They were patient when they suffered unjustly. We consider those who endure to be blessed. You have heard about Job's endurance. You saw that the Lord ended Job's suffering because the Lord is compassionate and merciful. James 5:10-11 (GOD’S WORD®)
Prepare your minds for service and have self-control. All your hope should be for the gift of grace that will be yours when Jesus Christ is shown to you. 1 Peter 1:13 (NCV™)
If you do wrong and receive a blow for it, what credit is there in your bearing it patiently? But if when you do right and suffer for it you bear it patiently, this is an acceptable thing with God. 1 Peter 2:20 (WNT)
[Since we have accepted Christ into our lives, He has given us great and precious gifts and blessings we need to live and serve God, to avoid the world’s evil lusts and to share in His divine nature.]
Because you have these blessings, do your best to add these things to your lives: to your faith, add goodness; and to your goodness, add knowledge; and to your knowledge, add self-control; and to your self-control, add patience; and to your patience, add service for God; and to your service for God, add kindness for your brothers and sisters in Christ; and to this kindness, add love. If all these things are in you and are growing, they will help you to be useful and productive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:3-9 (NCV™)
Dear friends, don't ignore this fact: One day with the Lord is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day. The Lord isn't slow to do what He promised, as some people think. Rather, He is patient for your sake. He doesn't want to destroy anyone but wants all people to have an opportunity to turn to Him and change the way they think and act. The day of the Lord will come like a thief. On that day Heaven will pass away with a roaring sound. Everything that makes up the universe will burn and be destroyed. The earth and everything that people have done on it will be exposed. 2 Peter 3:8-10 (GOD’S WORD®)
