Resentment kills the foolish man, And jealousy kills the simple. Job 5:2 (WEB)
The wicked boast of the desires of their heart, those greedy for gain curse and renounce the Lord. Psalms 10:3 (NRSV)

So do not be dismayed when evil men grow rich and build their lovely homes. For when they die, they carry nothing with them! Their honors will not follow them. He who puts his faith in wealth will come to nothing; but the upright man will be full of growth like the green leaf. Proverbs 11:28 (BBE)

All day long the wicked covet, but the righteous give and do not hold back. Proverbs 21:26 (NRSV)
The result of humility and the fear of the LORD Is wealth, honor, and life. Proverbs 22:4 (HNV)
He who has a generous eye will be blessed; For he shares his food with the poor. Proverbs 22:9 (WEB)
Whoever oppresses the poor to increase his own wealth, or gives to the rich, will only come to poverty. Proverbs 22:16 (ESV)
Do not take away the property of the poor man because he is poor, or be cruel to the crushed ones when they come before the judge: For the Lord will give support to their cause, and take the life of those who take their goods. Proverbs 22:22-23 (BBE)

Don't weary yourself trying to get rich. Why waste your time? For riches can disappear as though they had the wings of a bird! Proverbs 23:4-5 (TLB)
Don't be jealous of sinners; instead, always fear the Lord. For then you will have a future, and your hope will never fade. Proverbs 23:17-18 (HCSB)
Have no envy for evil men, or any desire to be with them: For the purposes of their hearts are destruction, and their lips are talking of trouble. Proverbs 24:1-2 (BBE)
Don't fret yourself because of evildoers; Neither be envious of the wicked: For there will be no reward to the evil man; And the lamp of the wicked shall be snuffed out. Proverbs 24:19-20 (HNV)
Anger is cruel and destructive, but it is nothing compared to jealousy. Proverbs 27:4 (GNT)
Hell has a voracious appetite, and lust just never quits. Proverbs 27:20 (The Message)
A man of wealth who is cruel to the poor is like a violent rain causing destruction of food. Proverbs 28:3 (BBE)
It is better to be poor and honest than rich and crooked. Proverbs 28:6 (NLT)
A man of good faith will have great blessing, but one attempting to get wealth quickly will not go free from punishment. Proverbs 28:20 (BBE)
A stingy man hurries after riches, And doesn't know that poverty waits for him. Proverbs 28:22 (WEB)
One who is greedy stirs up strife; But one who trusts in the LORD will prosper. Proverbs 28:25 (HNV)
Greed has two daughters named 'Give' and 'Give.' Proverbs 30:15 (NCV™)
I realized the reason people work hard and try to succeed: They are jealous of each other. This, too, is useless, like chasing the wind. Ecclesiastes 4:4 (NCV™)
Those who love money will never have enough. How absurd to think that wealth brings true happiness! The more you have, the more people come to help you spend it. So what is the advantage of wealth – except perhaps to watch it run through your fingers! Ecclesiastes 5:10-11 (NLT)
There is a painful tragedy that I have seen under the sun: Riches lead to the downfall of those who hoard them. Ecclesiastes 5:13 (GOD’S WORD®)
It is useless; it is like chasing the wind. It is better to be satisfied with what you have than to be always wanting something else. Ecclesiastes 6:9 (GNT)

California Coast MistJealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame. Song of Solomon 8:6 (KJV)
How terrible it will be for those who lie awake and plan evil! When morning comes, as soon as they have the chance, they do the evil they planned. When they want fields, they seize them; when they want houses, they take them. No one's family or property is safe. And so the Lord says, "I am planning to bring disaster on you, and you will not be able to escape it. You are going to find yourselves in trouble, and then you will not walk so proudly any more." Micah 2:1-3 (GNT)
Wealth is deceitful. Greedy people are proud and restless, like death itself they are never satisfied. That is why they conquer nation after nation for themselves. Habakkuk 2:5 (GNT)
[This is the one time that God wants you to test Him, to show you His generosity when you tithe, or give ten percent of your income:]
"Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this," Says the Lord of Hosts, "If I will not open for you the windows of Heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it." Malachi 3:10 (NKJV)
"No one is able to serve two masters. For either he will have hatred for the one, and love the other, or he will persevere with the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth." Matthew 6:24 (CPDV)
"Then will He say also to them on the left hand, 'Depart from Me, you cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels; for I was hungry, and you didn't give Me food to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me no drink; I was a stranger, and you didn't take Me in; naked, and you didn't clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you didn't visit Me.'
"Then will they also answer, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not help You?'
"Then will He answer them, saying, 'Most assuredly I tell you, inasmuch as you didn't do it to one of these least, you didn't do it to Me.'"
Matthew 25:41-45 (WEB)
He said, "What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person." Mark 7:20-23 (ESV)
Tax collectors also came to be baptized, and they asked Him, "Teacher, what should we do?"
He told them, "Don't collect any more than what you have been authorized."
Some soldiers also questioned Him: "What should we do?"
Jesus said to them, "Don't take money from anyone by force or false accusation; be satisfied with your wages." Luke 3:12-14 (HCSB)
Stained Glass Jesus Wounds"Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap; for the measure you give will be the measure you get back." Luke 6:38 (NRSV)
Then He said to them all, "If any want to become My followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow Me. For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for My sake will save it. What does it profit them if they gain the whole world, but lose or forfeit themselves?" Luke 9:23-25 (NRSV)
[In the Parable of the Rich Fool, Jesus teaches us to trust in God, not in our wealth or possessions. Often the rich solely credit themselves for their success, and not as a blessing, or a special ability or gift from God. Being rich toward God means to share what we have for the growth, or furtherance, of the Kingdom of God. Faith that saves us is one that looks toward eternal rewards, not worldly riches. Trade your earthly wealth for treasure in Heaven, our eternal home. You can’t take it with you, but you can definitely send it on ahead. And don’t ask God to make you rich so you can begin being generous. Just start where you are, because He also said that those who are faithful with a little will be given more. Those that aren’t faithful, even with what little they have, will have it taken from them. If you’re having difficulty tithing, and giving to help others, ask God to help you overcome your situation.]
He said to them, "Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions."
And He told them a parable, saying, "The land of a rich man produced plentifully, and he thought to himself, 'What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?' And he said, 'I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.'
"But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be? So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.'"
Luke 12:15-21 (ESV)
He also said to the one who had invited Him, "When you make a dinner or a supper, don't call your friends, nor your brothers, nor your kinsmen, nor rich neighbors, or perhaps they might also return the favor, and pay you back. But when you make a feast, ask the poor, the maimed, the lame, or the blind; and you will be blessed, because they don't have the resources to repay you. For you will be repaid in the resurrection of the righteous." Luke 14:12-14 (WEB)
"He who holds his life dear, is destroying it; and he who makes his life of no account in this world shall keep it to the Life of the Ages." John 12:25 (WNT)
Let your heart be changed, and make prayer to God that you may have forgiveness for your evil thoughts. For I see that you are imprisoned in bitter envy and the chains of sin. Acts 8:22-23 (BBE)
I would not have known sin except through the Law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the Law had said, "You shall not covet." Romans 7:7 (NKJV)

B and W Rockie MountainsFor if men are controlled by their earthly natures, they give their minds to earthly things. If they are controlled by their spiritual natures, they give their minds to spiritual things. Because for the mind to be given up to earthly things means death; but for it to be given up to spiritual things means Life and peace. Romans 8:5-6 (WNT)
So, my brothers and sisters, we must not be ruled by our sinful selves or live the way our sinful selves want. If you use your lives to do the wrong things your sinful selves want, you will die spiritually. But if you use the Spirit's help to stop doing the wrong things you do with your body, you will have true life. The true children of God are those who let God's Spirit lead them. Romans 8:12-14 (NCV™)
The commandments, "You shall not commit adultery; You shall not murder; You shall not steal; You shall not covet"; and any other commandment, are summed up in this word, "Love your neighbor as yourself." Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfilling of the Law. Romans 13:9-10 (NRSV)
You still live as the people of this world live. When there is jealousy among you and you quarrel with one another, doesn't this prove that you belong to this world, living by its standards? 1 Corinthians 3:3 (GNT)
Love is patient and is kind; love doesn't envy. Love doesn't brag, is not proud, doesn't behave itself inappropriately, doesn't seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil; doesn't rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (WEB)
The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. 2 Corinthians 9:6-8 (ESV)
Florida Keys sunsetWhat I say is this: let the Spirit direct your lives, and you will not satisfy the desires of the human nature. For what our human nature wants is opposed to what the Spirit wants, and what the Spirit wants is opposed to what our human nature wants. These two are enemies, and this means that you cannot do what you want to do. Galatians 5:16-17 (GNT)
If the Spirit is leading you, you are not under the Law. The wrong things the sinful self does are clear: being sexually unfaithful, not being pure, taking part in sexual sins, worshiping gods, doing witchcraft, hating, making trouble, being jealous, being angry, being selfish, making people angry with each other, causing divisions among people, feeling envy, being drunk, having wild and wasteful parties, and doing other things like these. I warn you now as I warned you before: Those who do these things will not inherit God's Kingdom. Galatians 5:18-21 (NCV™)
With the Lord's authority let me say this: Live no longer as the ungodly do, for they are hopelessly confused. Their closed minds are full of darkness; they are far away from the life of God because they have shut their minds and hardened their hearts against Him. They don't care anymore about right and wrong, and they have given themselves over to immoral ways. Their lives are filled with all kinds of impurity and greed. But that isn't what you were taught when you learned about Christ. Ephesians 4:17-20 (NLT)

You were taught to put away your former way of life, your old self, corrupt and deluded by its lusts, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to clothe yourselves with the new self, created according to the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:22-24 (NRSV)
Since you are God's people, it is not right that any matters of sexual immorality or indecency or greed should even be mentioned among you. Ephesians 5:3 (GNT)
Do nothing from selfishness or conceit, but in humility count others better than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Philippians 2:3-4 (RSV)
Therefore, put to death whatever in you is worldly: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, God's wrath comes on the disobedient. Colossians 3:5-6 (HCSB)
Having food and clothing, we will be content with that. But those who are determined to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful lusts, such as drown men in ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows. But you, man of God, flee these things, and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and gentleness. 1 Timothy 6:8-11 (WEB)
Know this: difficult times will come in the last days. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, without love for what is good, traitors, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to the form of religion but denying its power. Avoid these people! 2 Timothy 3:1-5 (HCSB)
Your lives should be untainted by love for money. Be content with what you have; for God Himself has said, "I will never, never let go your hand: I will never, never forsake you." So that we fearlessly say, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid: what can man do to me?" Hebrews 13:5-6 (WNT)
For jealousy and selfishness are not God's kind of wisdom. Such things are earthly, unspiritual, and motivated by the Devil. For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and every kind of evil. James 3:15-16 (NLT)
Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures. James 4:1-3 (NKJV)
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions, is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. 1 John 2:15-17 (ESV)
Now, suppose a person has enough to live on and notices another believer in need. How can God's love be in that person if he doesn't bother to help the other believer? Dear children, we must show love through actions that are sincere, not through empty words. 1 John 3:17-18 (GOD’S WORD®)
