God's Words of Comfort

A Portion of God's Holy Word Regarding:

Faith – Hope – Trust – Confidence – Promise

[Living on a planet with at least six billion others may lend one to think that they're insignificant in the grand scheme of things. But God does not see you as insignificant, each one of us has great potential. No matter how small we may appear to ourselves, we all have unlimited possibilities. With just a little bit of faith, and proper nurturing from Jesus Christ, one can become an individual of great strength and creativity. We're all capable of making a contribution.
And God can do a lot with your little bit of faith, there is no limit as to what He can do with it. With God on your side, you become a majority of one. When you have faith in the Lord, that's when you can begin to move the mountains of difficulty in front of you. There is no task that is too difficult for God.
Start small, faith rarely starts big, if ever. This initial faith, or trust, is enough for your salvation, wherein you acknowledge that you're a sinner and that Jesus Christ, through His death and resurrection, is the only One who can offer salvation. Jesus spoke of the tiny mustard seed, which is all the faith needed to call on God initially for your salvation, and then for His personal help in all aspects of your life. Just as the tiny mustard seed grows into a very tall bush, a very tiny amount of faith in God can produce unlimited results. You have great potential and when you respond to God's call, plant your tiny seed of faith, allow Him to work within you, and participate in its growth all to the glory of Jesus Christ.]

Have you not known? have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, doesn't faint, neither is weary; there is no searching of His understanding. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: but those who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint. The Lord is good, a stronghold in a day of trouble; He protects those who take refuge in Him. Nahum 1:7 (NRSV)

Though the fig tree may not blossom, Nor fruit be on the vines; Though the labor of the olive may fail, And the fields yield no food; Though the flock may be cut off from the fold, And there be no herd in the stalls--Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The Lord God is my strength; He will make my feet like deer's feet, And He will make me walk on my high hills. Habakkuk 3:17-19 (NKJV)

"Will anyone rob God? Yet you are robbing Me! But you say, 'How are we robbing You?' In your tithes and offerings! You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing Me—the whole nation of you! Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and thus put Me to the test, says the Lord of Hosts; see if I will not open the windows of Heaven for you and pour down for you an overflowing blessing." Malachi 3:8-10 (NRSV)

Stained Glass Faith Hath Made Thee WholeJesus got up and followed him, with His disciples. Then suddenly a woman who had been suffering from hemorrhages for twelve years came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His cloak, for she said to herself, "If I only touch His cloak, I will be made well."
Jesus turned, and seeing her He said, "Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well." And instantly the woman was made well. Matthew 9:19-22 (NRSV)

Jesus rebuked him, the demon went out of him, and the boy was cured from that hour. Then the disciples came to Jesus privately, and said, "Why were we not able to cast it out?"
     He said to them,
"Because of your unbelief. For most assuredly I tell you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you." Matthew 17:18-20 (WEB)

"Everything is possible to him who believes." Mark 9:23 (WNT)

"Remember," said Peter to Him, "that we forsook everything and have become Your followers."
"In solemn truth I tell you," replied Jesus, "that there is no one who has forsaken house or brothers or sisters, or mother or father, or children or lands, for My sake and for the sake of the Good News, but will receive a hundred times as much now in this present life--houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, lands--and persecution with them--and in the coming age the Life of the Ages." Mark 10:28-30 (WNT)

Jesus said to them, "Have faith in God. In solemn truth I tell you that if any one shall say to this mountain, 'Remove, and hurl thyself into the sea,' and has no doubt about it in his heart, but steadfastly believes that what he says will happen, it shall be granted him. That is why I tell you, as to whatever you pray and make request for, if you believe that you have received it, it shall be yours." Mark 11:22-24 (WNT)

There is nothing which God is not able to do. Luke 1:37 (BBE)

The Apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith."
     But the Lord said:
"If you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you may say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted, and be transplanted into the sea.' And it would obey you." Luke 17:5-6 (CPDV)

"He who trusts in Him does not come up for judgment. He who does not trust has already received sentence, because he has not his trust resting on the name of God's only Son. And this is the test by which men are judged--the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness more than they loved the Light, because their deeds were wicked. For every wrongdoer hates the light, and does not come to the light, for fear his actions should be exposed and condemned. But he who does what is honest and right comes to the Light, in order that his actions may be plainly shown to have been done in God." John 3:18-21 (WNT)

"All who trust Him—God's Son—to save them have eternal life; those who don't believe and obey Him shall never see Heaven, but the wrath of God remains upon them." John 3:36 (TLB)

Jesus said unto them, "I am the bread of Life: he that cometh to Me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on Me shall never thirst." John 6:35 (KJV)

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of Life." John 8:12 (NKJV)

"In most solemn truth I tell you that if any one shall have obeyed My teaching he shall in no case ever see death." John 8:51 (WNT)

Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in Me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?" John 11:25-26 (NRSV)

"Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know."
Thomas said to Him, "Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?"
     Jesus said to him,
"I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." John 14:1-6 (NKJV)

"Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in Me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. I will do whatever you ask in My name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son." John 14:12-13 (NRSV)

Jesus saith unto him, "Thomas, because thou hast seen Me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed." John 20:29 (KJV)

This Good News tells us that God makes us ready for Heaven—makes us right in God's sight—when we put our faith and trust in Christ to save us. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scripture says it, "The man who finds life will find it through trusting God." Romans 1:17 (TLB)

Now that we have God's approval by faith, we have peace with God because of what our Lord Jesus Christ has done. Through Christ we can approach God and stand in His favor. So we brag because of our confidence that we will receive glory from God. But that's not all. We also brag when we are suffering. We know that suffering creates endurance, endurance creates character, and character creates confidence. We're not ashamed to have this confidence, because God's love has been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. Romans 5:1-5 (GOD’S WORD®)

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Romans 8:1 (KJV)

Certainly, all who are guided by God's Spirit are God's children. You haven't received the spirit of slaves that leads you into fear again. Instead, you have received the spirit of God's adopted children by which we call out, "Abba! Father!" The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. If we are His children, we are also God's heirs. If we share in Christ's suffering in order to share His glory, we are heirs together with Him. I consider our present sufferings insignificant compared to the glory that will soon be revealed to us… We were saved with this hope in mind. If we hope for something we already see, it's not really hope. Who hopes for what can be seen? But if we hope for what we don't see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance. Romans 8:14-18, 24-25 (GOD’S WORD®)

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose… What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:28, 31 (KJV)

Aspens Near Convict LakeSo what does all this mean? Those who are not Jews were not trying to make themselves right with God, but they were made right with God because of their faith. The people of Israel tried to follow a Law to make themselves right with God. But they did not succeed, because they tried to make themselves right by the things they did instead of trusting in God to make them right. They stumbled over the stone that causes people to stumble. As it is written in the Scripture: "I will put in Jerusalem a stone that causes people to stumble, a rock that makes them fall. Anyone who trusts in Him will never be disappointed." Romans 9:30-33 (NCV™)

So what exactly was Moses saying? The word that saves is right here, as near as the tongue in your mouth, as close as the heart in your chest. Say the welcoming word to God - "Jesus is my Master" - embracing, body and soul, God's work of doing in us what He did in raising Jesus from the dead. That's it. You're not "doing" anything; you're simply calling out to God, trusting Him to do it for you. That's salvation. With your whole being you embrace God setting things right, and then you say it, right out loud: "God has set everything right between Him and me!" Scripture reassures us, "No one who trusts God like this - heart and soul - will ever regret it." Romans 10:8-11 (The Message)

So faith comes from hearing the Good News, and people hear the Good News when someone tells them about Christ. Romans 10:17 (NCV™)

May God, the giver of hope, fill you with continual joy and peace because you trust in Him--so that you may have abundant hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13 (WNT)

Keep alert, stand firm in your faith, be courageous, be strong. 1 Corinthians 16:13 (NRSV)

We are always confident, even though we know that as long as we live in these bodies we are not at home with the Lord. That is why we live by believing and not by seeing. Yes, we are fully confident, and we would rather be away from these bodies, for then we will be at home with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:6-8 (NLT)

Yet we know that a person is put right with God only through faith in Jesus Christ, never by doing what the Law requires... I have been put to death with Christ on His cross, so that it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me. This life that I live now, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave His life for me. Galatians 2:16, 19-20 (GNT)

Before Christ came, Moses' Laws served as our guardian. Christ came so that we could receive God's approval by faith. But now that this faith has come, we are no longer under the control of a guardian. You are all God's children by believing in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:24-26 (GOD’S WORD®)

But God is rich in mercy because of His great love for us. We were dead because of our failures, but He made us alive together with Christ. (It is God's kindness that saved you.) God has brought us back to life together with Christ Jesus and has given us a position in Heaven with Him. He did this through Christ Jesus out of His generosity to us in order to show His extremely rich kindness in the world to come. Ephesians 2:4-7 (GOD’S WORD®)

By grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God—not the result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are what He has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life. Ephesians 2:8-10 (NRSV)

Such was the eternal purpose which He had formed in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have this bold and confident access through our faith in Him. Ephesians 3:11-12 (WNT)

Use the shield of faith with which you can stop all the burning arrows of the Evil One. Ephesians 6:16 (NCV™)

I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13 (WEB)

My God will supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 (WEB)

But we belong to the day, and we should be sober. We must wear faith and love as a breastplate, and our hope of salvation as a helmet. God did not choose us to suffer His anger, but to possess salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us in order that we might live together with Him, whether we are alive or dead when He comes. And so encourage one another and help one another, just as you are now doing. 1 Thessalonians 5:8-11 (GNT)

I have gone through the glorious contest; I have run the race; I have guarded the faith. From this time onward there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me, but also to all who love the thought of His Appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 (WNT)

When the true message, the Good News, first came to you, you heard about the hope it offers. So your faith and love are based on what you hope for, which is kept safe for you in Heaven. The gospel keeps bringing blessings and is spreading throughout the world, just as it has among you ever since the day you first heard about the grace of God and came to know it as it really is. Colossians 1:5-6 (GNT)

If then you were raised together with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated on the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things that are above, not on the things that are on the earth. Colossians 3:1-2 (WEB)

We have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the End. Hebrews 3:14 (NKJV)

We have this hope as an anchor for our lives. It is safe and sure, and goes through the curtain of the Heavenly Temple into the inner sanctuary. On our behalf Jesus has gone in there before us and has become a High Priest forever. Hebrews 6:19-20 (GNT)

What is faith? It is the confident assurance that something we want is going to happen. It is the certainty that what we hope for is waiting for us, even though we cannot see it up Yosemite Winterahead… By faith—by believing in God—we know that the world and the stars—in fact, all things—were made at God's command; and that they were all made from things that can't be seen… You can never please God without faith, without depending on Him. Anyone who wants to come to God must believe that there is a God and that He rewards those who sincerely look for Him. Hebrews 11:1, 3, 6 (TLB)

[The following is a spiritual pep talk for when your faith is flagging; if you need strength, keep your eyes on Jesus and see what He endured for us on the cross:]
Since we are surrounded by so many examples of faith [Moses, Daniel, Paul, and the other prophets and disciples], we must get rid of everything that slows us down, especially sin that distracts us. We must run the race that lies ahead of us and never give up. We must focus on Jesus, the source and goal of our faith. He saw the joy ahead of Him [in Heaven], so He endured death on the cross and ignored the disgrace it brought Him. Then He received the highest position in Heaven, the one next to the throne of God. Think about Jesus, who endured opposition from sinners, so that you don't become tired and give up. You struggle against sin, but your struggles haven't killed you. Hebrews 12:1-4 (GOD’S WORD®)

If you want to know what God wants you to do, ask Him, and He will gladly tell you, for He is always ready to give a bountiful supply of wisdom to all who ask Him; He will not resent it. But when you ask Him, be sure that you really expect Him to tell you, for a doubtful mind will be as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind; and every decision you then make will be uncertain, as you first turn this way, and then that. If you don't ask with faith, don't expect the Lord to give you any solid answer. James 1:5-8 (TLB)

Blessed is he who patiently endures trials; for when he has stood the test, he will gain the victor's crown--even the crown of Life--which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. James 1:12 (WNT)

My dear brothers and sisters, don't be fooled. Every good present and every perfect gift comes from above, from the Father who made the sun, moon, and stars. The Father doesn't change like the shifting shadows produced by the sun and the moon. James 1:16-17 (GOD’S WORD®)

Suppose a believer, whether a man or a woman, needs clothes or food and one of you tells that person, "God be with you! Stay warm, and make sure you eat enough." If you don't provide for that person's physical needs, what good does it do? In the same way, faith by itself is dead if it doesn't cause you to do any good things. James 2:15-17 (GOD’S WORD®)

Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. James 4:8 (WNT)

Let us give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! Because of His great mercy He gave us new life by raising Jesus Christ from death. This fills us with a living hope, and so we look forward to possessing the rich blessings that God keeps for His people. He keeps them for you in Heaven, where they cannot decay or spoil or fade away. They are for you, who through faith are kept safe by God's power for the salvation which is ready to be revealed at the end of time. Be glad about this, even though it may now be necessary for you to be sad for a while because of the many kinds of trials you suffer. Their purpose is to prove that your faith is genuine. Even gold, which can be destroyed, is tested by fire; and so your faith, which is much more precious than gold, must also be tested, so that it may endure. Then you will receive praise and glory and honor on the Day when Jesus Christ is revealed. 1 Peter 1:3-7 (GNT)

California Gold PoppiesPure gold put in the fire comes out of it proved pure; genuine faith put through this suffering comes out proved genuine. When Jesus wraps this all up, it's your faith, not your gold, that God will have on display as evidence of His victory. You never saw Him, yet you love Him. You still don't see Him, yet you trust Him - with laughter and singing. Because you kept on believing, you'll get what you're looking forward to: total salvation. 1 Peter 1:7-9 (The Message)

Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you. 1 Peter 5:7 (KJV)

Jesus has the power of God, by which He has given us everything we need to live and to serve God. We have these things because we know Him. Jesus called us by His glory and goodness. Through these He gave us the very great and precious promises. With these gifts you can share in being like God, and the world will not ruin you with its evil desires. Because you have these blessings, do your best to add these things to your lives: to your faith, add goodness; and to your goodness, add knowledge. 2 Peter 1:3-5 (NCV™)

If we confess our sins, He is so faithful and just that He forgives us our sins and cleanses us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 (WNT)

Everyone who has faith that Jesus is the Christ is a child of God: and everyone who has love for the Father has love for His Child… Anything which comes from God is able to overcome the world: and the power by which we have overcome the world is our faith. 1 John 5:1, 4 (BBE)

This is the confidence that we have toward Him, that if we ask anything according to His will He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of Him. 1 John 5:14-15 (ESV)

But you, dear friends, must build up your lives ever more strongly upon the foundation of our holy faith, learning to pray in the power and strength of the Holy Spirit. Stay always within the boundaries where God’s love can reach and bless you. Wait patiently for the eternal life that our Lord Jesus Christ in His mercy is going to give you. Jude 20-21 (TLB)

"Listen! I am standing at the door, knocking; if you hear My voice and open the door, I will come in to you and eat with you, and you with Me." Revelation 3:20 (NRSV)
