A Portion of God's Holy Word Regarding:
Enemies – Adversaries – Opposition – Intimidation – Threat
Then I said to you, "Do not be in dread or afraid of them. The Lord your God who goes before you will Himself fight for you." Deuteronomy 1:29-30 (ESV)
Ye shall not fear them: for the LORD your God He shall fight for you. Deuteronomy 3:22 (KJV)
Today you are drawing near for battle against your enemies: let not your heart faint. Do not fear or panic or be in dread of them, for the Lord your God is He who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory. Deuteronomy 20:3-4 (ESV)
The Lord will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways. Deuteronomy 28:7 (NKJV)
If men rise up to pursue you and to seek your life, the life of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of the living in the care of the LORD your God; and the lives of your enemies He shall sling out as from the hollow of a sling. 1 Samuel 25:29 (RSV)
You are to give worship to the Lord your God; for it is He who will give you salvation from the hands of all who are against you. 2 Kings 17:39 (BBE)
"Moreover I will subdue all thine enemies." 1 Chronicles 17:10 (KJV)
Because your faith was in the Lord, He gave them up into your hands. 2 Chronicles 16:8 (BBE)
Those who hate you will be clothed with shame, And the dwelling place of the wicked will come to nothing. Job 8:22 (NKJV)
Lord, how my foes increase! There are many who attack me. Many say about me, "There is no help for him in God." But You, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, and the One who lifts up my head. I cry aloud to the Lord, and He answers me from His holy mountain. Psalms 3:1-4 (HCSB)
The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And they that know Thy name will put their trust in Thee: for Thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek Thee. Psalms 9:9-10 (KJV)
Wondrously show Your steadfast love, O Savior of those who seek refuge from their adversaries at Your right hand. Keep me as the apple of Your eye; hide me in the shadow of Your wings, from the wicked who do me violence, my deadly enemies who surround me. Psalms 17:7-9 (ESV)
I love You, LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; My God, my rock, in whom I will take refuge; My shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower. I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies. Psalms 18:1-3 (HNV)
It is God who avenges me, And subdues the peoples under me; He delivers me from my enemies. You also lift me up above those who rise against me; You have delivered me from the violent man. Psalms 18:47-48 (NKJV)
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies; You anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. Psalms 23:4-6 (KJV)
Unto thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul. O my God, I trust in Thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me. Yea, let none that wait on Thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause. Psalms 25:1-3 (KJV)
The LORD is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid? When evil-doers came at me to eat up my flesh, Even my adversaries and my foes, they stumbled and fell. Though a host should encamp against me, My heart shall not fear. Though war should rise against me, Even then I will be confident. One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after, That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, To see the beauty of the LORD, And to inquire in His temple. For in the day of trouble He will keep me secretly in His pavilion. In the covert of His tent will He hide me. He will lift me up on a rock. Now shall my head be lifted up above my enemies around me. I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tent. I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD. Psalms 27:1-6 (HNV)
O Lord, be on my side against those who are judging me; be at war with those who make war against me. Be a breastplate to me, and give me Your help. Take up Your spear and keep back my attackers; say to my soul, "I am Your salvation." Let them be overcome and put to shame who make attempts to take my soul; let those who would do me damage be turned back and made foolish. Let them be like dust from the grain before the wind; let the angel of the Lord send them in flight. Let their way be dark and full of danger; let them be troubled by the angel of the Lord. Psalms 35:1-6 (BBE)
By this I know that Thou favorest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph over me. Psalms 41:11 (KJV)
O God, save me by Your name, and vindicate me by Your might. O God, hear my prayer; give ear to the words of my mouth. For strangers have risen against me; ruthless men seek my life, they do not set God before themselves. Behold, God is my helper; the Lord is the upholder of my life. He will return the evil to my enemies; in Your faithfulness put an end to them. Psalms 54:1-5 (ESV)
Be merciful to me, O God, because I am under attack; my enemies persecute me all the time. All day long my opponents attack me. There are so many who fight against me. When I am afraid, O Lord Almighty, I put my trust in You. I trust in God and am not afraid; I praise Him for what He has promised. What can a mere human being do to me? My enemies make trouble for me all day long; they are always thinking up some way to hurt me!... The day I call to You, my enemies will be turned back. I know this: God is on my side—the Lord, whose promises I praise. In Him I trust, and I will not be afraid. What can a mere human being do to me? Psalms 56:1-5, 9-11 (GNT)
Deliver me from mine enemies, O my God: defend me from them that rise up against me. Psalms 59:1 (KJV)
Give us help from trouble, For the help of man is useless. Through God we will do valiantly, For it is He who shall tread down our enemies. Psalms 60:11-12 (NKJV)
Come near to my soul, for its salvation: be my Savior, because of those who are against me. You have seen my shame, how I was laughed at and made low; my haters are all before You. My heart is broken by bitter words, I am full of grief; I made a search for some to have pity on me, but there was no one; I had no comforter. Psalms 69:18-20 (BBE)
O my God, take me out of the hand of the sinner, out of the hand of the evil and cruel man. For You are my hope, O Lord God; I have had faith in You from the time when I was young. Psalms 71:4-5 (BBE)
Let my adversaries be clothed with dishonor. Let them cover themselves with their own shame as with a robe. Psalms 109:29 (WEB)
He will never fail. A righteous person will always be remembered. He is not afraid of bad news. His heart remains secure, full of confidence in the LORD. His heart is steady, and he is not afraid. In the end he will look triumphantly at his enemies. Psalms 112:6-8 (GOD’S WORD®)
Deliver me, O LORD, from mine enemies: I flee unto Thee to hide me. Psalms 143:9 (KJV)
When a man's ways please the LORD, He maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him. Proverbs 16:7 (KJV)
A good-for-nothing man is a designer of evil, and in his lips there is a burning fire. A man of twisted purposes is a cause of fighting everywhere: and he who says evil secretly makes trouble between friends. Proverbs 16:27-28 (BBE)
The words of a gossip are like tasty bits of food. People like to gobble them up. Proverbs 18:8 (NCV™)
Don't ever say, "I'll get you for that!" Wait for God; He'll settle the score. Proverbs 20:22 (The Message)
Do not be happy when your enemy falls, and do not feel glad when he stumbles. The LORD will see it, He won't like it, and He will turn His anger away from that person. Proverbs 24:17-18 (GOD’S WORD®)
If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink: For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee. Proverbs 25:21-22 (KJV)
Without wood, a fire goes out; without gossip, quarreling stops. Proverbs 26:20 (GNT)
Like a clay pot covered with cheap silver, so is smooth talk that covers up an evil heart. Whoever is filled with hate disguises it with his speech, but inside he holds on to deceit. When he talks charmingly, do not trust him because of the seven disgusting things in his heart. His hatred is deceitfully hidden, but his wickedness will be revealed to the community. Whoever digs a pit will fall into it. Whoever rolls a stone will have it roll back on him. A lying tongue hates its victims, and a flattering mouth causes ruin. Proverbs 26:23-28 (GOD’S WORD®)
"Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of My righteousness. Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish. Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought. For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, 'Fear not; I will help thee.'" Isaiah 41:10-13 (KJV)
"They will fight against you, but they shall not prevail against you, for I am with you," declares the Lord, "to deliver you." Jeremiah 1:19 (ESV)
O Lord, You know; Remember me and visit me, And take vengeance for me on my persecutors. In Your enduring patience, do not take me away. Know that for Your sake I have suffered rebuke. Jeremiah 15:15 (NKJV)
But You, Lord, are on my side, strong and mighty, and those who persecute me will fail. They will be disgraced forever, because they cannot succeed. Their disgrace will never be forgotten. But, Almighty Lord, You test people justly; You know what is in their hearts and minds. So let me see You take revenge on my enemies, for I have placed my cause in Your hands. Jeremiah 20:11-12 (GNT)
"Son of man, do not fear them. Don't be afraid even though their threats are sharp as thorns and barbed like briers, and they sting like scorpions. Do not be dismayed by their dark scowls. For remember, they are rebels! You must give them My Messages whether they listen or not. But they won't listen, for they are completely rebellious!" Ezekiel 2:6-7 (NLT)
Your hand is lifted up against those who are against You, and all Your haters will be cut off. Micah 5:9 (BBE)
As for me, I will look to the LORD. I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me. Don't rejoice against me, my enemy. When I fall, I will arise. When I sit in darkness, the LORD will be a light to me. Micah 7:7-8 (HNV)
"Blessed are you when they have insulted and persecuted you, and have said every cruel thing about you falsely for My sake. Be joyful and triumphant, because your reward is great in the Heavens; for so were the Prophets before you persecuted." Matthew 5:11-12 (WNT)
"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor, and you shall have hatred for your enemy.' But I say to you: Love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you. And pray for those who persecute and slander you. In this way, you shall be sons of your Father, who is in Heaven. He causes His sun to rise upon the good and the bad, and He causes it to rain upon the just and the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward will you have? Do not even tax collectors behave this way?" Matthew 5:43-46 (CPDV)
"Whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in Heaven may also forgive you your wrongdoing." Mark 11:25 (HCSB)
"I say to you that hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. To him who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also; and from him who takes away your coat do not withhold even your shirt. Give to every one who begs from you; and of him who takes away your goods do not ask them again. And as you wish that men would do to you, do so to them.
"If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to receive as much again. But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He is kind to the ungrateful and the selfish. Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful." Luke 6:27-36 (RSV)
"Good people bring good things out of the good they stored in their hearts. But evil people bring evil things out of the evil they stored in their hearts. People speak the things that are in their hearts." Luke 6:45 (NCV™)
"He who listens to you listens to Me; and he who disregards you disregards Me, and he who disregards Me disregards Him who sent Me." Luke 10:16 (WNT)
"If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, since I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you: 'A servant is not greater than his lord.' If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also. But all these things will they do to you for My name's sake, because they don't know Him who sent Me... He who hates Me, hates My Father also." John 15:18-21, 23 (WEB)
"Now, Lord, look at their threats, and grant to Your servants to speak Your Word with all boldness, while You stretch forth Your hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus." Acts 4:29-30 (WEB)
One night the Lord said to Paul in a vision, "Do not be afraid, but speak and do not be silent; for I am with you, and no one will lay a hand on you to harm you, for there are many in this city who are My people." Acts 18:9-10 (NRSV)
So what should we say about this? If God is with us, no one can defeat us. He did not spare His own Son but gave Him for us all. So with Jesus, God will surely give us all things.
Who can accuse the people God has chosen? No one, because God is the One who makes them right. Who can say God's people are guilty? No one, because Christ Jesus died, but He was also raised from the dead, and now He is on God's right side, begging God for us.
Can anything separate us from the love Christ has for us? Can troubles or problems or sufferings or hunger or nakedness or danger or violent death?
As it is written in the Scriptures: "For You we are in danger of death all the time. People think we are worth no more than sheep to be killed." But in all these things we have full victory through God who showed His love for us. Yes, I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor ruling spirits, nothing now, nothing in the future, no powers, nothing above us, nothing below us, nor anything else in the whole world will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:31-39 (NCV™)
Bless those who persecute you; bless, and don't curse… Repay no one evil for evil. Respect what is honorable in the sight of all men… Don't seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, "Vengeance belongs to Me; I will repay, says the Lord." Therefore "If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink. For in doing so, you will heap coals of fire on his head." Don't be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:14, 17, 19-21 (WEB)
I urge you, brothers and sisters, to keep an eye on those who cause dissensions and offenses, in opposition to the teaching that you have learned; avoid them. For such people do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the simple-minded. Romans 16:17-18 (NRSV)
Then comes the End, when He delivers the Kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. 1 Corinthians 15:24-26 (NKJV)
A great and effective door has opened to me, and there are many adversaries. 1 Corinthians 16:9 (WEB)
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we are not contending against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places…
Stand therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the equipment of the Gospel of peace; besides all these, taking the shield of faith, with which you can quench all the flaming darts of the evil one. Ephesians 6:10-12, 14-16 (RSV)
Don't be afraid of your enemies; always be courageous, and this will prove to them that they will lose and that you will win, because it is God who gives you the victory. For you have been given the privilege of serving Christ, not only by believing in Him, but also by suffering for Him. Philippians 1:28-29 (GNT)
I have told you this many times before, and now I repeat it with tears: there are many whose lives make them enemies of Christ's death on the cross. They are going to end up in hell, because their god is their bodily desires. They are proud of what they should be ashamed of, and they think only of things that belong to this world. We, however, are citizens of Heaven, and we eagerly wait for our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, to come from Heaven. Philippians 3:18-20 (GNT)
On this account we wanted to come to you--at least I, Paul, wanted again and again to do so--but Satan hindered us. 1 Thessalonians 2:18 (WNT)
Finally, brothers and sisters, pray that we spread the Lord's Word rapidly and that it will be honored the way it was among you. Also pray that we may be rescued from worthless and evil people, since not everyone shares our faith. But the Lord is faithful and will strengthen you and protect you against the evil one. 2 Thessalonians 3:1-3 (GOD’S WORD®)
I have suffered, but the Lord saved me from all those troubles. Everyone who wants to live as God desires, in Christ Jesus, will be hurt. But people who are evil and cheat others will go from bad to worse. They will fool others, but they will also be fooling themselves. 2 Timothy 3:11-13 (NCV™)
The Lord will deliver me from every cruel attack and will keep me safe in preparation for His heavenly Kingdom. To Him be the glory until the Ages of the Ages! Amen. 2 Timothy 4:18 (WNT)
We can say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?" Hebrews 13:6 (NRSV)
This suffering is all part of the work God has given you. Christ, who suffered for you, is your example. Follow in His footsteps: He never sinned, never told a lie, never answered back when insulted; when He suffered He did not threaten to get even; He left His case in the hands of God who always judges fairly. 1 Peter 2:21-23 (TLB)
The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their prayers; But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil. And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good? But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you are blessed. And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled. But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed. 1 Peter 3:12-16 (NKJV)
Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. Discipline yourselves, keep alert. Like a roaring lion your adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour. Resist him, steadfast in your faith, for you know that your brothers and sisters in all the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering. And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself restore, support, strengthen, and establish you. To Him be the power forever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 5:7-11 (NRSV)
