God's Words of Comfort

A Portion of God's Holy Word Regarding:

Disaster – Calamity – Facing a Crisis – Trauma – Humiliation

Joshua told them, "Don't hold back. Don't be timid. Be strong! Be confident! This is what God will do to all your enemies when you fight them." Joshua 10:25 (The Message)
I said, "My God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to You, my God; for our iniquities are increased over our head, and our guiltiness is grown up to the heavens." Ezra 9:6 (WEB)
The Lord said to Satan, "See, [Job] is in your hands, only do not take his life."
And Satan went out from before the Lord, and sent on Job an evil disease covering his skin from his feet to the top of his head. And he took a broken bit of a pot, and, seated in the dust, was rubbing himself with the sharp edge of it.
And his wife said to him, "Are you still keeping your righteousness? Say a curse against God, and put an end to yourself."
And he said to her, "You are talking like one of the foolish women. If we take the good God sends us, are we not to take the evil when it comes?" In all this Job kept his lips from sin. Job 2:6-10 (BBE)

So, what a blessing when God steps in and corrects you! Mind you, don't despise the discipline of Almighty God! True, He wounds, but He also dresses the wound; the same hand that hurts you, heals you. From one disaster after another He delivers you; no matter what the calamity, the evil can't touch you. Job 5:17-19 (The Message)
Let my cause come to your ears, O Lord, give attention to my cry; give ear to my prayer which goes not out from false lips. Psalms 17:1 (BBE)
FloodedHouseHe delivered me from my strong enemy, From those who hated me; for they were too mighty for me. They came on me in the day of my calamity, But the LORD was my support. He brought me forth also into a large place. He delivered me, because He delighted in me… For I have kept the ways of the LORD, And have not wickedly departed from my God. Psalms 18:17-19, 21 (HNV)
To You, LORD, do I lift up my soul. My God, in You have I trusted, Let me not be put to shame. Don't let my enemies triumph over me. Yes, no one who waits for You shall be put to shame. They shall be put to shame who deal treacherously without cause. Show me Your ways, LORD. Psalms 25:1-4 (HNV)
The LORD is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid? When evil-doers came at me to eat up my flesh, Even my adversaries and my foes, they stumbled and fell. Though a host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear. Though war should rise against me, Even then I will be confident… For in the day of trouble He will keep me secretly in His pavilion. In the covert of His tent will He hide me. He will lift me up on a rock. Psalms 27:1-3, 5 (HNV)
Make Thy face to shine upon Thy servant: save me for Thy mercies' sake. Let me not be ashamed, O LORD; for I have called upon Thee: let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave. Psalms 31:16-17 (KJV)
Let your eyes be turned to Him and you will have light, and your faces will not be shamed. This poor man's cry came before the Lord, and He gave him salvation from all his troubles. Psalms 34:5-6 (BBE)
The righteous cry, and the LORD hears, And delivers them out of all their troubles. The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves those who have a crushed spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the LORD delivers him out of them all. Psalms 34:17-19 (HNV)
California Poppies CloseupGod is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling… Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! The Lord of Hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Psalms 46:1-3, 10-11 (ESV)
Cast your burden on the Lord, and He will sustain you; He will never permit the righteous to be moved. Psalms 55:22 (NRSV)
Be merciful to me, God, be merciful to me, For my soul takes refuge in You. Yes, in the shadow of Your wings, I will take refuge, Until disaster has passed. Psalms 57:1 (HNV)
O Lord, give ear to my prayer; and take note of the sound of my requests. In the day of my trouble I send up my cry to You; for You will give me an answer. There is no god like You, O Lord; there are no works like Your works. Psalms 86:6-8 (BBE)
Happy is he whose resting-place is in the secret of the Lord, and under the shade of the wings of the Most High; Who says of the Lord, He is my safe place and my tower of strength: He is my God, in whom is my hope. He will take you out of the bird-net, and keep you safe from wasting disease. You will be covered by His feathers; under His wings you will be safe: His good faith will be your salvation. You will have no fear of the evil things of the night, or of the arrow in flight by day, Or of the disease which takes men in the dark, or of the destruction which makes waste when the sun is high…
"Because he has given Me his love, I will take him out of danger: I will put him in a place of honor, because he has kept My name in his heart. When his cry comes up to Me, I will give him an answer: I will be with him in trouble; I will make him free from danger and give him honor. With long life will he be rewarded; and I will let him see My salvation." Psalms 91:1-6, 14-16 (BBE)
Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble; He saved them from their distress. He sent His Word and healed them; He rescued them from the Pit. Let them give thanks to the Lord for His faithful love and His wonderful works for the human race. Psalms 107:19-21 (HCSB)
I still had faith, though I said, "I am in great trouble." Psalms 116:10 (BBE)
B and W Bedded SandstoneI called upon the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me, and set me in a large place. The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me? Psalms 118:5-6 (KJV)
I lift up my eyes to the hills— from where will my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made Heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all evil; He will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time on and forevermore. Psalms 121:1-8 (NRSV)
When pride comes, then comes shame, But with humility comes wisdom. Proverbs 11:2 (WEB)
Sometimes it takes a painful experience to make us change our ways. Proverbs 20:30 (GNT)
If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small. Proverbs 24:10 (KJV)
If you fall to pieces in a crisis, there wasn't much to you in the first place. Proverbs 24:10 (The Message)
If your hater is in need of food, give him bread; and if he is in need of drink, give him water: For so you will put coals of fire on his head, and the Lord will give you your reward. Proverbs 25:21-22 (BBE)
Never abandon a friend – either yours or your father's. Then in your time of need, you won't have to ask your relatives for assistance. It is better to go to a neighbor than to a relative who lives far away. Proverbs 27:10 (NLT)
Have you not known? have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, doesn't faint, neither is weary; there is no searching of His understanding. He gives power to the faint; and to him who has no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: but those who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:28-31 (HNV)
"I create both light and darkness; I bring both blessing and disaster. I, the Lord, do all these things. I will send victory from the sky like rain; the earth will open to receive it and will blossom with freedom and justice. I, the Lord, will make this happen." Isaiah 45:7-8 (GNT)
Golden AspensWe despised Him and rejected Him; He endured suffering and pain. No one would even look at Him— we ignored Him as if He were nothing. But He endured the suffering that should have been ours, the pain that we should have borne. All the while we thought that His suffering was punishment sent by God. But because of our sins He was wounded, beaten because of the evil we did. We are healed by the punishment He suffered, made whole by the blows He received. Isaiah 53:3-5 (GNT)
O Lord, the hope of Israel, all who forsake You up will be put to shame; those who go away from You will be cut off from the earth, because they have given up the Lord, the fountain of living waters. Jeremiah 17:13 (BBE)
"You have frightened other people. Your arrogance has deceived you. You live on rocky cliffs and occupy the highest places in the hills. Even though you build your nest as high as an eagle, I will bring you down from there," declares the LORD. Jeremiah 49:16 (GOD’S WORD®)
I called on Your name, Lord, out of the lowest dungeon. Lamentations 3:55 (HNV)
Come, let us return to the Lord; for it is He who has torn, and He will heal us; He has struck down, and He will bind us up. Hosea 6:1 (NRSV)
"Behold, I will come to you," says the Lord of Hosts, "and I will reveal your shame to your face, and I will show your nakedness to the Gentiles, and your disgrace to kingdoms." Nahum 3:5 (CPDV)
But the Lord is good, and he is there in that city. He does no wrong. Every morning he governs the people fairly; every day he can be trusted. But evil people are not ashamed of what they do. Zephaniah 3:5 (NCV™)
One day He got into a boat with His disciples, and He said to them, "Let us go across to the other side of the lake."
So they put out, and while they were sailing He fell asleep. A windstorm swept down on the lake, and the boat was filling with water, and they were in danger. They went to Him and woke Him up, shouting, "Master, Master, we are perishing!"
And He woke up and rebuked the wind and the raging waves; they ceased, and there was a calm. He said to them, "Where is your faith?"
They were afraid and amazed, and said to one another, "Who then is this, that He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him?" Luke 8:22-25 (NRSV)
Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will hardship, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword... No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. Romans 8:35, 37 (NRSV)
God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. 1 Corinthians 1:27-29 (ESV)
Tejon Horses and PoppiesLet us give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the merciful Father, the God from whom all help comes! He helps us in all our troubles, so that we are able to help others who have all kinds of troubles, using the same help that we ourselves have received from God. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (GNT)
We have troubles all around us, but we are not defeated. We do not know what to do, but we do not give up the hope of living. We are persecuted, but God does not leave us. We are hurt sometimes, but we are not destroyed… So we do not give up. Our physical body is becoming older and weaker, but our spirit inside us is made new every day. We have small troubles for a while now, but they are helping us gain an eternal glory that is much greater than the troubles. 2 Corinthians 4:8-9, 16-17 (NCV™)
At all times carry faith as a shield; for with it you will be able to put out all the burning arrows shot by the Evil One… Do all this in prayer, asking for God's help. Pray on every occasion, as the Spirit leads. For this reason keep alert and never give up; pray always for all God's people. Ephesians 6:16, 18 (GNT)
Don't worry about anything, instead, pray about everything; tell God your needs and don't forget to thank Him for His answers. If you do this you will experience God's peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will keep your thoughts and your hearts quiet and at rest as you trust in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 (TLB)

I am suffering now because I tell the Good News, but I am not ashamed, because I know Jesus, the One in whom I have believed. And I am sure He is able to protect what He has trusted me with until that Day. 2 Timothy 1:12 (NCV™)
Inasmuch, then, as we have in Jesus, the Son of God, a great High Priest who has passed into Heaven itself, let us hold firmly to our profession of faith. For we have not a High Priest who is unable to feel for us in our weaknesses, but one who was tempted in every respect just as we are tempted, and yet did not sin. Therefore let us come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our times of need. Hebrews 4:14-16 (WNT)
